Holiday Book Club Read

Okay folks, we got off track in the past couple of months but we are up and running again. Instead of having several books leading up to the holiday season, which we know will be busy for everyone! It has been decided that we will devote ourselves to one book and meet in December and have a themed outing for our group.
Our Holiday Book Read will be Author : Jean Shepherd, A Christmas Story. Our next meeting will be on Friday, December 14th. at 7:30 PM at Panera Bread, Tom Hill Sr. in Macon.

The following day, December 15th. we will meet up and break into groups for a trip to Scott Antique Markets in Atlanta. We will have a treasure hunt (buy items or take pictures with your phone) to find items mentioned in the book with the winner (single, one, uno) taking home a prize from a local restaurant (hint: it will be something really great to start out the new year with).

Happy Reading from Middle Georgia Book Club!

How to socialize in Middle Georgia?

The question was posed to me earlier this week. How do you meet people, make friends, date, or otherwise socialize in the Warner Robins, Perry, Macon, or just in the Middle Georgia area? This person is not from here so he does not have the usual outlets that most do here.

I told him that there are cliques that still hang out as they did in school. Long time neighbors that have bonn fires on cold nights. Fishing and Hunting buddies that hang out on a regular basis. There are bars in town and places such as WOW Cafe that has a combo of bar but also great food to eat (wings!) but who wants to hang out at a bar?

I suggested our book club. A book club such as the Middle Georgia Book Club is a relaxed way to get to know people. Men and Women, all ages, races, backgrounds can come together and have a topic already picked out. Then the awkwardness that usually accompanies meeting someone is gone because you have something in common to talk about. A BOOK! an interesting book that all the others of the group have an opinion about.

The books we pick already have a list of questions in the back of them so we don't even have to think of what to talk about at all. We can just meet and freely offer up our opinion about the book. The questions are listed by number and we can start at 1 and continue until we run out of questions.

With the awkwardness gone, a way to meet new people, and it is free! Why not?

We are still waiting for members to pick a date, time, and place for our next meeting. I hope any of you reading this will complete the survey here on the page and keep checking back for postings of the next meeting and book we will be reading. We have a suggested reading list of some really good books.

Happy Reading!

Next Middle Georgia Book Club Meeting

Gottwals Books Location Perry, Georgia
The next meeting for the Middle Georgia Book Club has not been decided. We are asking those interested in attending to please leave a comment on which day of the week and time would best work for everyone as we have had some conflict with times and dates. We can not please everyone but if we have a general consensus to go by, more people will be happy with the scheduling of meetings.
We will continue to go by the suggested book club reading list. As soon as we have a date and time chosen, we will provide the next book on the list.
Please see our Facebook Page  and join us there also!

Happy Reading!

July 7th. Middle Georgia Book Club Meeting at The Coffee Shop onCarroll Street

The Coffee Cup on Carroll
We are meeting today at a really "rare gem" as Thomas describes it. Shane Gottwals of Gottwals Books hosted our book club today in the top floor of the coffee shop. We enjoyed leisurely afternoon of talking, laughing, and talking about the wonderful Summer Fun read "Savannah Breeze" by Mary Kay Andrews.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, August 18 , 2012. We have decided to meet here again as this is a perfect place to meet and discuss the books and relax. Our members can come between 1:00 and 1:30, we hope to start at 2 pm as The Coffee Shop on Carroll closes at 4 pm on Saturday.

The Coffee Shop on Carroll in Perry, Georgia is part of the revitalized downtown. It has a modern but old world feel to it. The drinks are great, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the people vary in age. This is the reason why we have chosen to start meeting here on a regular basis.

Our next book is "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak. Gottwals Books in Perry said that they usually have this book but are currently out of stock at all locations. They can order it for members for $9.00 a piece. The other option is for us to email weekly and inquire if the book is available at any locations. We have opted to email weekly. If you want to take advantage of them ordering for you, just call and let them know you are a Middle Georgia Book Club member.
If you plan on attending, please email us at middlegeorgiabookclub@yahoo.com so we can keep you up to date on any changes or other events that we have going on.

July 7th. Meeting Right Around the Corner

The Middle Georgia Book Club meeting is right around the corner on July 7th. (next Saturday). We will gather between 2:30 and 3:00 at Gottwals Books in Perry, Georgia. It looks like our book that we will be reviewing was sold out at Gottwals Books at ALL locations because so many that plan on attending the book club will be in attendance.
Because of the increased interest in the club we have emailed Gottwals Books to please make a little more room for us. Abbey Gottwals said today that it maybe possible that the coffee shop there in Perry could possibly host us if there is not enough room in their store. Either way, we will be meeting and we can probably expect quite a turn out.
We have had several people contact us about this blog not working when a person tries to join it. The kinks are still being worked out so please bare with us.

We hope to see everyone at the meeting next week. Bring your copy of Savannah Breeze with you so we can discuss it and have a great time!

Til next time,

Middle Georgia Book Club
